How far can you take extreme individualism? The jewelry label RUDE ROCKER from Munich astonishes with its wild glam rock creations, setting a new standard in exclusivity and craftsmanship. Two exceptional style personalities are behind the brand: The Portuguese painter and guitarist Nuno Evaristo, who handcrafts every item himself – and the stylist Sandra Olschewski from Munich, who is known as an ambassador for the sustainable avant-garde. RUDE ROCKER's jewelry is clearly wilder, more authentic and vibrant than much of what we've seen before. It´s an indescribable mix of ethnic elements and rock ́n ́roll style, featuring exquisite haute couture quality. Every single item breathes personality and a haunting aura. Why is that? Each individual component could tell exciting stories about their previous life as a leather jacket, bottle, door or window frame – or about its arduous creational process, crafted with a Bunsen burner. The jewelry made by Nuno Evaristo and Sandra Olschewski was already featured on TV, spicing up the style of a famous talkmaster for several weeks in a row. Yet it is still an insider tip. Looking into the future, the two will keep their work as it is – an exclusive brand for bespoke items. RUDE ROCKER will never go mass level – instead, it will provide unique pieces for people with a special understanding of style and values. In this interview, the makers of the exceptional brand reveal insights into their values, craftsmanship and uncompromisingness, talking to the journalist Rosemarie Frühauf. REGARDING YOUR CREATIVE PERSONALITIES, EACH ONE OF YOU IS A PHENOMENON. WHY DID YOU START OUT MAKING JEWELRY TOGETHER? Sandra Olschewski: We founded RUDE ROCKER in 2019 because we simply couldn't find the jewelry of our dreams. So our reason to get started was a very practical one. As I am a person with highly individualistic style, I have always recombined or reworked existing pieces to make them fit my vision – and this approach made me a stylist for bands and artists. On Instagram today, 250,000 people follow my content that talks about fashion, sustainability and transparency – and sometimes I express quite critical opinions there ... My motto in fashion has always been: "Show me the stuff the mainstream doesn't wanna buy". Because it is often among these underappreciated things, where I discover the gems and great looks. Nuno Evaristo: Same with me! I´m a heavy metal guitarist plus a painter and renowned outsider artist, which makes it damn difficult to find stylish accessories for myself. So I've been on a quest up and down Munich, hardly finding anything befitting my style. „Am I the only guy looking for rocking necklaces or bracelets?", I wondered. The yield was – if at all – meager and in poor quality. At some point I was immensely frustrated. I decided to learn jewelry making myself. That´s when I started experimenting with different materials and styles.
WHAT STYLES HAVE INSPIRED YOU? S.O. It's a mix of glam rock, punk, rock ́n ́roll and ethnic influences coming together here. Each piece of jewelry is refined by us until we want to wear it ourselves. And we absolutely never do something twice! If someone likes a necklace they've seen on a friend, they will get something similar – but by no means the exact twin! Because nothing is more bizarre than the promise of "exclusive design" when thousands of others are walking around in the same style.
WHAT KIND OF MATERIAL GOES INTO THE RUDE ROCKER JEWELRY? S.O.. Very important to us: RUDE ROCKER uses stainless steel and sterling silver, which are resistand to abrasion. Everybody knows the big problem with todays costume jewelry: It often tarnishes black or looks copper-colored after just a few days of wearing. We therefore meticulously ensure that our materials meet the highest standards and are indeed suitable to be worn as favorite pieces for many years to come. All our purchased parts are Made in Europe. Even the wires. And we do "stress tests" with our finished jewelry. Some of our necklaces even are reassembled from different old chains – which creates a fascinating mix and match. BUT RUDE ROCKER ALSO USES PRECIOUS STONES ... N.E. Absolutely! The mix of materials is one of our specialties. For example, we use amethyst, semi-precious stones, turquoise and lots of black onyx. We get these stones in Germany from dealers we trust. In addition we use freshwater pearls and authentic African beads and cut crystal beads. Some of our glass elements have even experienced previous incarnations as bottles – as I went so far to teach myself how to melt and process glass. In principle, with every component I try to do something – whether I'm carving patterns into horn beads or „embellishing" silver placeholders with a hammer.
WHAT IS THE PRICE POINT OF RUDE ROCKER JEWELRY? N.E. The invest for the customer depends entirely on the value of the ingredients – and the story they tell. We intentionally make pieces that everyone can afford – plus highly exclusive haute couture pieces waiting for individualists to fall in love with them. Just an example: It is very well possible for us to use vintage coral, diamonds, or antique gemstones whose history dates back to the 18th century – we have such materials at hand. Of course such a unique piece takes on an aura that is as indescribable as it is costly. As an artist, I naturally love such uncompromising adventures and look forward to commissions of this kind.

WAS STECKT AN MATERIAL IN DEN RUDO ROCKER UNIKATEN? S.O.
