Why is Korean cosmetics so good ? Many Korean skin care brands combine centuries-old healing knowledge with modern, specially-developed extraction or even fermentation methods. In most cases, there is a long research process behind not only every product, but every single ingredient contained in a product. This always ensures that an ingredient is maximally effective, compatible and absorbable before it is used in a product.Korean makeup is also often a synergy of skincare and makeup, which means that it too has a decorative but also skin-care effect at the same time. How does Korean cosmetics differ from Western cosmetics? Why is it so on the rise ? Korean cosmetics are usually very mildly formulated. Almost all products are additionally combined with skin-soothing ingredients. Many brands also avoid fragrances or ingredients that can cause allergies. This means that the potential for irritation is quite low in most cases. In many cases, the price-performance ratio is simply unbeatable compared to equivalent Western products. In the meantime, many Europeans may already have come into contact with Korean skin care and have been able to determine exactly these above-mentioned things for themselves. Thus, of course, subsequently more and more often Korean skin care is used. With which products did the beauty trend start ? For us, it all started with the Perfect Cover BB Cream from MISSHA. When the hype about it became visible on the internet, our CEO and COO were the first to bring this product to Europe. Liptints were also trendy in the beginning, as they were known from K-Drama series, and also Aloe Vera and Centella products. After the BB Creams followed the complete brand MISSHA and other K-Beauty Brands up to currently about 50 Korean brands in our K-Beauty House assortment. Why are the Asians several steps ahead of us when it comes to cosmetics? Here I always like to say: What the automotive industry is for Germany, the skin care and beauty industry is for South Korea. The inventiveness for new, original cosmetics seems to be insatiable in Korea. Interesting product types are constantly coming onto the market, or innovative ingredients or manufacturing and extraction processes are being developed. Consequently, this constant research and development creates a certain edge in this field. How does the Korean beauty ritual differ from ours? How do Koreans care for their skin ? Skin care is very important to Koreans. They tend to focus on naturally beautiful skin rather than heavy makeup that covers "blemishes". Different skin care products are often applied in layers, whereas in the West "only" one cream is applied. This means that Koreans apply several products on top of each other. This ensures a more intensive care effect. Applied in the right order, the individual products do not weaken each other, but rather additionally strengthen their effect. What is special about layering and how often should it be done? Layering a product several times is a great way to adapt products to your personal skin needs. For dry skin, for example, you can apply a moisturizing essence several times in succession to achieve a more intensive care effect. How often depends entirely on the individual skin care needs. However, it is important to note that a single layer is sufficient for a product with active ingredients. When it comes to the overall skincare routine, the rule of thumb is to always start with the most liquid product and layer up to the product with the thickest texture. This will ensure that all products are ideally absorbed into the skin. You can give your skin care routine a real care and effect boost by layering. Can you tell us your personal favorites that you use every day and what convinces you about them ? I love the blue BANILA CO Clean it zero Cleansing Balm (Purifying). It melts into the skin so beautifully when applied, is super mild and the skin feels completely clean afterwards without feeling tight. At times of my extremely dry neurodermatitis skin I would have been so happy about such a facial cleanser. After that, I follow up with a water-based cleanser from THE POTIONS, but it won't be available in our area for about 2 months (I've been able to test it for a few months in advance and I'm thrilled). I super like the BENTON Fermentation Essence because it makes my skin look really plump and radiant with a single layer, while strengthening my skin barrier in the long run. Otherwise, I use GOODAL Green Tangerine Vita C Dark Spot Serum every morning as an antioxidant boost for a fresh complexion and against pimple marks and COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream with SPF50+ as a cream substitute. It's quite enough for me as a finishing touch to my skincare routine. In the evening, I use COSRX The Retinol 0.5 Oil 3 times a week. This makes my skin texture super soft and little by little small pimple marks disappear with it more and more. Last but not least is my absolute favorite cream for the evening: the MISSHA Time Revolution Night Repair Cream. I have tested super many creams and some were too little or too much care for me, so I woke up in the morning with either a little dry or too oily skin. The Night Repair cream is just right for me, strengthens my skin and makes it look fresh and refreshed in the morning.
Which product would you recommend to our readers who have not yet had any experience with Korean cosmetics ? If I had to choose just one, it would be MISSHA The First Treatment Essence. It offers benefits and great effects for all skin types and many of our customers also rave about it. The Essence is therefore also one of our absolute bestsellers and I always recommend it privately. The Essence can really be called an all-round talent: It contains all the ingredients that skincare connoisseurs love so much: Fermented yeast extract for a strengthened skin barrier, hyaluronic acid for plenty of moisture, and niacinamide for an all-around more radiant complexion and pore care - to name just a few.
